WHY ARE WE COMMANDED TO HONOR
OUR FATHER AND MOTHER?

From The Holy Bible (KJV), the fourth commandment in the Ten Commandments is:

Exodus 20:12 – “Honor thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.”

Deuteronomy 5:16 – “Honor thy father and thy mother, as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee; that thy days may be prolonged, and that it may go well with thee, in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.”

The honoring of our earthly father and mother are also mentioned in the following verses:

Deuteronomy 27:16 – “Cursed be he that setteth light by his father or his mother: and all the people shall say, Amen.”

Matthew 15:4 –  “For God commanded, saying, Honor thy father and mother: and, He that curseth father or mother, let him die the death.”

Matthew 19:19 – “Honor thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.”

Mark 7:10 – “For Moses said, Honor thy father and thy mother; and, Whoso curseth father or mother, let him die the death:”

Mark 19:19 – “Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Defraud not, Honor thy father and mother.”

Luke 18:20 – “Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honor thy father and mother.”

Ephesian 6:1-3 – “Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.  Honor thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise; that is may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.”

Jesus was the one who said the above verses from Matthew, Mark and Luke.

It seems that these days, children do not have much respect for their parents as in previous generations.  That is why, in 1974, the Holy Spirit said as one of His prophecies, “Grave problems will confront parents concerning their children; in fact, children will begin to assert more authority in the homes than their own parents.”  The Holy Spirit repeated this in 1975 when He said, “The assertion of authority by the children over their parents will continue.”

In one of our sessions with Him in 1987 (more than two pages long, single space), He said that what is happening at home is conflict between the child and the parents.  It is called “Cold War” because instead of having an open conflict, both will just be silent.  He further said that this is what we can only do (to be silent) because we parents are weak.  We are weak as parents.  Then He gave pieces of advice on how to tackle this problem.

The Holy Spirit also told us that parents are the gods of their children here on earth, but the God of all of us is still the Father in Heaven.  The Holy Spirit may have said this in relation to the fourth commandment.  I believe that we have never heard from our priests, pastors, ministers or theological scholars such designation of the parents as gods of their children here on earth.  But this revelation came from the Holy Spirit Himself.  I believe it makes sense that is why I included this as one of the doctrines taught by the Holy Spirit which you may read in my website below.

Whether you will believe this or not, it is up to you.  I am just sharing to you what the Holy Spirit has told us which I transcribed and translated to English from our tape-recorded sessions with Him.

God bless us and protect us from harm always.
