Please note:

  1. A ? in the DATE column indicates that the date when the holiday is observed in the Gregorian calendar varies from year to year.
  2. The public holidays in the Aristean calendar have fixed dates and day of week.
  3. There are ten (10) public holidays per year in the Gregorian calendar.
  4. There are ten (10) public holidays per year in the Aristean calendar in common years and eleven (11) in leap years.?The eleventh is Leap Year Day.
  5. Good Friday is replaced by Crucifixion Day, August 17, Saturday; Easter Monday by Resurrection Day, August 20, Tuesday.?Crucifixion Day and Resurrection Eve is equivalent to only one public holiday.?Since Crucifixion Day falls on a Saturday, the Monday following it is declared as public holiday in lieu of the Saturday holiday.
  6. Christmas Day is presently observed on December 25 but in the Aristean calendar, it will be observed on its correct date, May 23, a Friday.? An additional holiday is Christmas Eve, May 22, Thursday.?This gives a four-day-long weekend.
  7. World Peace Day, December 31, a no-weekday, is observed as a holiday worldwide.?This gives a four-day-long weekend, December 29, Saturday; December 30, Sunday; December 31, World Peace Day; and January 1, New Year’s Day.
  8. Every leap year, a holiday worldwide is observed when the leap day is inserted or intercalated into the calendar to keep the calendar in step with the seasons.?This is held on June 31, a no-weekday, giving a three-day long weekend: June 29, Saturday; June 30, Sunday; and June 31, a no-weekday holiday.
  9. The following holidays are observed in regional areas only:

a.      Hobart Cup Day (South Tasmania), second Monday of February; February 12 in the Aristean,

b.      Hobart Regatta Day (South Tasmania), second Monday of February; February 12 in the Aristean,

c.      Launceston Cup Day (North Tasmania), fourth Monday of February; Febuary 26 in the Aristean,

d.      Launceston Show Day (North Tasmania), second Thursday of October; October 11 in the Aristean,

e.      Hobart Show Day (South Tasmania), fourth Thursday of October; October 25 in the Aristean, and

f.        Recreation Day (North Tasmania), first Monday of November; November 5 in the Aristean.
